By providing humanitarian aid to poor countries, the U.N. could place certain restrictions, such as using birth control, if offered food packages, to decrease problems in these areas. That way, it would be voluntary, and still help these people to stop living in unsafe conditions.
If the UN did not increase their humanitarian aid to poor nations, thousands around the world could die of hunger. As a result of the world economic recession and widespread corruption in developing countries, many countries have reduced the amount of humanitarian aid they offer. The UN needs to pick up where developed governments around the world stopped, or else thousands could die.
Morally, it is important for people in a higher position to help those that are less fortunate. The wealthier countries in the United Nations should band together to offer more to disadvantaged nations, to help them grow and get to the point where they can join the United Nations to give back, as well.
The United Nations has a goal of providing peace and order to the world. As a model for how both nations and individuals should act, the UN has a duty to take care of the less fortunate, because if we do not see those in power acting on behalf of the less fortunate, it gives no motivation for anyone to help anyone with less.
Increasing aid to poor nations improves not only the general warfare of the nation receiving aid, but also the economic welfare of the countries giving said aid. If the United Nations invests in developing countries, the immediate benefit is the easing of human suffering (starvation, disease, etc.). The long-term economic benefit lies in developing a political and trading partner for the future. Countries propped up by the United Nations in their developing years are far more likely to side with the U.N. during wartime, and will eventually flourish into economies that can buy and sell goods to U.N. member countries. Increasing aid to developing countries, to me, is an obvious slam-dunk.
When people are in economic crisis and their needs are not being met, their political ideals fall by the wayside in favor of self preservation and getting their needs met. If a crazy dictator has a plan that promises to feed everyone, he's going to have a much easier rise to power in a hungry nation. If an extremist terrorist organization is the only free school in the area, if poor parents want their kids to go to school to improve their situation, they end up sending them to the terrorist school. Keeping dictators and extremists out of power helps make the world safer and more democratic for us all. I'd much rather have democratically elected, sane, leaders in control of armies and missiles than ones that rose to power as a result of a poverty stricken populace. Aid money now prevents military money being spent later.
Many poor nations lack the basic knowledge that some of us take for granted. Poor nations probably believe that with aid from other countries they are going to get help immediately and see those results just as quickly. May be the UN can send more humanitarian aid and educate that poor nation on how things can improve and give them some basic knowledge.
All people have the right to live, and food is necessary for life. It is unthinkable that the United Nations, in working to be a hedge around anti-terrorism, supporting nations experiencing catastrophic devastation, agreeing to sanctions against rebellious countries, would not also support countries whose inhabitants are dying of starvation. I think it is imperative that that the United Nations always functions in a manner that ensures the preservation of human lives.
The UN General Assembly and associated Security Council are already established means of communication that all countries are present in. That being the case, they can best make decisions on a majority basis as to which countries should receive aid, particularly considering they (through the various agencies, such as the UNDP and UNICEF) collect the relevant statistics. This is a means of circumventing bilateral agreements that favor states of the Global North, many of which contributed to the current crises that affect the regions most in need of humanitarian aid (e.g. European imperialism, Soviet expansionism, and debt-based structural adjustment).
The United Nations needs to do all it can to aid poor nations. All nations are made up of people. All humans have an obligation to assist other people in need as much as they can. Jesus the Christ, who was greater then any human, gave his life for the benefit of humanity even though humanity did not deserve it. How can the UN, whose members are no greater than anyone else, do any less than give of themselves for the benefit of others?
I strongly believe that the United Nations should increase the volume of aid to poor nations. In this current world economy most countries have been devastated financially and in poorer countries the effects of the economy have been felt twice as much. I also support training initiatives to teach the citizens of poorer nations how to build up their own economies.
The United Nations has to help with humanitarian efforts to countries that need it. There are so many basic requirements like clean water and food provisions that should be provided to the poor countries in this world by the more wealthy ones. Efforts should be made to help them and to teach the citizenry of these countries how to help themselves. Teaching them ways to purify water, teaching them farming maybe, teaching them methods of birth control or providing it for them could all help.
The United Nations was formed in order to bring stability to this world for all it's inhabitants whether it be political, economic, military or humanitarian aid. Aid should not be given based upon what the country can give back or it's political structure rather by it's need. It's wrong for one country to be given more aid than another. If human beings need humanitarian aid it should be increased and not withheld particularly if the government is oppressive or not providing it to it's people. Perhaps if the poorest nations were given more humanitarian aid it's people would be able to rise up and oust the governments which do so very little to help the world and are often the most dangerous to all of us.
Those who have, should share with those who do not. I will never advocate forcing the hand of a person to aid those in need, but I do believe that the United Nations could be doing much better things with the resources that it has at its disposal. Rather than talking about a bunch of political junk, just help the less fortunate so that they can rise up and rule themselves in a wise way through an increase in their own abilities.
I believe that the United Nations should provide more aid to poor countries because they don't always have the means necessary to help themselves. It is not a matter of spreading the wealth but a matter of supporting our fellow human beings and increasing their quality of life. Any nation that can afford to help poor countries should increase their amount of aid.
I believe that much more money should go to the poor than for war. I also believe that the money should be provided to poor nations because the more powerful ones have taken strategic efforts to make sure that these nations remain poor. Often their natural resource are controlled by outside parties who destroy the water and soil resulting in starving and unhealthy populations who are practically slaves to the first world. Calling humanitarian aid, aid, suggest that money is given to these places out of the kindness of the rich nations' hearts when in fact they are giving them pennies compared to what they take from them constantly. It isn't aid, the first world owes the second and third and what the UN has sent to them doesn't even begin to cover the interest and late fees.
As you see with Africa, many countries are struggling to pay for needs and wants and the demand is high for that. I think it would be good to help them out but only within their own government may they ask for help and get it form them. It would great to see those countries develop and be a healthy established place to live.
The UN should increase funding to poor nations and make funding a priority. Nearly half of the world currently exists in poverty conditions. These nations are often involved in civil unrest while they cannot feed their people. The world's countries spend over $1 trillion dollars a year on defense budgets, yet many in the world do not have enough to eat. I believe that the UN should spend funds teaching people to farm, to raise wildlife, and to start business so that they can be self-sustaining.
Humanitarian aid is self-explanatory. It's being a human, aiding those who can't help themselves. Why should people suffer without food, clothes, shelter, and medicine because of a geographic accident of birth? So many of us are so fortunate that we should make the basics available to those who are less fortunate.
The United Nations should increase aid to poor nations as it was designed to be the global watchdog of humanitarian efforts in matching needs to resources. The problem with the United Nations doing this lies in the fact that they have become themselves a poorly administrated organization frequently facing charges of corruption and criminal activities.
I feel that the UN actually needs to be more vocal in it's humanitarian mission. I often feel as if the UN effort aren't felt or appreciated. There are many underfunded countries that need serious help. If the UN was a major force in trying to impact change then these countries would truly begin to flourish. I think aid to a country would be better received from the UN than from just a foreign power.
I honestly believe the United Nations is more concerned with power and control in these poor nations, than helping the poor. Look at the footage coming from Haiti over the past two weeks. The U.N troops are shown beating the poor people and shooting them with rubber bullets. America is the one providing most of the aid. If the U.N. really wants to provide aid for the poor, I'm all for it though.
The world has a whole has enough resources to make sure every single person on this planet is cared for with at least the basic needs. It is everyone's responsibility just as human beings to do what we can to help anyone in need. The countries in question are usually the ones who can't help themselves, so we absolutely have to do our best to help them.
The United Nations should have a policy where it helps those devastated by disaster and war, and should not use funding to simply increase the wealth of individual nations. At some point, the UN needs to realize that it cannot help every issue, and that it should use financial aid in the situations for which the organization was created.
i am refugee women live IDPS comps near mogadisha wee need any can of help how to protect the affects of droughts of my family there for i hope you to assist us as soon as possiple i and my family if you can
Often in the poorest of nations, there is a huge divide between the wealthy and the poor. When resources are sent there, they get into the wrong hands - the wealthy hands and the poor people don't see any of the benefit. I think that the United Nations needs to regulate the resources sent to the nations and ensure that the right people benefit from the aid.
Many nations receive help from the United Nations and other sources, such as our country. Some of the food items are stolen and never get to the people who really need it. A lot of help is wasted and gangsters and thugs take over the aid. Whether it be food or medical supplies. Some of it is sold on the black market. I would not trust the United Nations with monitoring the aid. Especially when some workers have been accused of rape.
Increased humanitarian aid to poor or developing nations may not necessarily have a positive impact on the society's future in the long term. A population that is dependent on foreign aid for survival is more weak than a population that is forced to find a way to sustain its survival.
Nations need to work toward prospering instead of relying on others for the help their nation needs. Independence while taking acceptance is the contentment of the foolish country. Even if agriculture needs to be encouraged over macaroni and cheese, it needs to happen. At least get them on the right track, instead of not.
