  • They make you feel foccused

I'm 15 and a sophmore in highschool. Personally i don't agree with the arguments that uniforms are too expensive or take away from your individuality. When buying a few uniforms it is cheeper than going out and buying a bunch of new name brand outfits. With individuality people will meet you and talk to you for your personality instead of what you wear. On top of that it makes you think that you are there for school and working on that instead of childish drama games that everyone is guilty of. Almost no one follows the dress codes at our school anyway, to the point where my officals have given up. With uniforms we wouldn't have too much of that issue because if they dont wear the uniform they get in trouble..easy as that

  • Uniforms are better for the students and the administration.

I have had my kids in both public non-uniform schools and in private uniform schools. One of the things I prefer about private schools is their uniform policy. Anyone who says that uniforms stifle creativity is simply being ignorant. Uniforms force the students to express themselves through their character instead of through their appearance. In return they are also judged by others by their actions and personalities instead of by how they dress. It doesn't matter if some kids are rich or poor since uniforms totally level the fashion playing field - this is especially important in high school. In addition there is the modesty issue. My daughter attends a non-uniform secondary school and I am shocked at what some of the girls are wearing to school. There is no way anyone could argue that some of the inappropriate, super-revealing outfits are not a huge distraction to other students. Even a uniform kilt worn too short would be WAAAY more modest than some of the clothes I have seen on today's high school girls - and these are at schools that supposedly have dress codes. Adults don't go to the office dressed as if they are going to the beach, so why are students going to school dressed inappropriately? People pay extra to send their kids to private school - if uniforms were not proven to foster a better learning environment, then why would private schools continue to use them? And finally, uniforms do NOT need to be uncomfortable. There is nothing uncomfortable about a simple polo shirt and khaki pants.

  • People who make fun said no.

I'm 15. I'm a sophmore at high school. I want uniforms so bad. I feel like they would help avoid/prevent a lot of name calling and bullying. It disgusts me that kids are that rude and disrespectful. There are very few people who follow the dress code anyways:/

  • the bad kids should yes!!!!!! :)

i think so because the kids that are in alpha yes because they already got a chance in a regular school and the responsiblility to choose if they wanted to behave and wear what they wanted and behaved but, they lost that and now they are in a bad school for bad kids and i strongly think they should wear uniforms for my word because they should not choose what they want to wear.. the kids that are there now already been bad and they might bring something to school like some weapons or violence stuff and the should wear what other people are wearing of the uniforms.

I am 14 and is in high school, and i think uniforms are a good thing, it keeps the students together. i also would hate to have to wear something new every single day, of every week? like i don't think my mum will really want to wash clothes that i wear every week, every day. It is really pointless. Although this is just my opinion. Students should definitely wear uniforms. Because most girls to be precise have little competitions with other girls too see who has and wears the better clothes, not only do they have to keep up with the latest fashion which can also be expensive, (which is another thing) so, it will just be a competition and then there will be more arguments between them all. Then it will just turn nasty. Cost is another thing, Girls and boys will see something they like, and will have to want it, it's either a do or die moment. And also when our school have free dress days, we have a total different attitude towards the teachers, and act crazy. Like we are at home. So uniforms should be required at schools to keep them all together as a school, instead of students running around like headless chickens!!

Have you ever your child being distracted and getting bad grades just because of his/her clothes? In my opinion, I believe that schools should make kids wear uniforms. I believe so because it decreases violent and theft in school, some students might take school work after wearing a uniform, and it reduces distraction for students.

  • uniforms are essential.

i think school uniforms helps create uniformity and a feeling that they belong to the same institution. Moreover it will give rise to social equality which is again a good sign for the improvement for the moral behaviour of students. It also does not put pressure on students coming fron weaker financial backgrounds

Although I'm 13, I believe that the students should wear uniforms because lots of the kids are getting made fun of because they dont have the latest clothes and shoes, but if we found a way to make the uniforms comfortable and say hey we are glad we have uniforms then it would be a great idea.

  • School Uniforms should be mandatory

Having school uniforms can prevent the distraction which basically creates from fancy dress ups. Those who dress up like that most likely to be appreciated for their outfit; not for their talent. But if everyone has same uniform, there is no way to see this types of situation again. Then, everyone will understand the significance of being appreciated for their talent instead of their clothes.

  • THEY SHOULD WEAR UNIFORMS

the students show to much skin and they also wear gang colors and the beat up people because of wat they we should wear wear it's not right so tht is y we should wear uniforms School uniforms help schools keep order, and prevent administrations from spending excessive time trying to regulate gang-related apparel or overly sexy fashions. They also make economic differences between students' families less visible, and reduce the pressure on poor families to provide large, stylish wardrobes for their children. Yes, I do agree most confidently that schools should maintain a must & should rule for their students to wear uniform, which highly resembles unity and uniformity among the children in the school. As the uniform color & design vary from school to school, its very easy for people to recognize for which school or institution the children belongs to. Not only that, the children also feel confident with their dressing posture and dignified, so it's very essential for all the children to wear the uniform as per their school requirements.

  • I support schools enforcing students to wear a uniform because it keeps peace and unity among kids and helps staff to know which children belong on campus and which do not.

When students all dress in uniform it lessens the financial burden for the parents and helps to close the gap between those students who are poor and those who are rich. The unity and peace that wearing uniforms promotes helps students learn because they spend less time trying to fit in and more time doing their work. Teachers and staff members of the school can identify immediately anyone who does not belong on campus and who may be there to cause problems.

  • I positively believe that schools should require uniforms, so children can focus more on education and less on fashion.

There is too much focus and peer pressure on children's fashion sense and appearance. For those children whose parent(s) may be struggling financially, this puts them at an even greater disadvantage, as they are often ridiculed and even bullied if they are not wearing the "right" clothes. Wearing the latest designer duds shouldn't be a factor where a child's education is concerned. If standard uniforms are enforced, this places all children on an even playing field and eliminates the additional stresses of social peer pressure.

  • Uniforms prevent class status.

Uniforms prevent gang interaction because of the clothing worn in a school. No uniform is generally a fun color or style and that is the purpose. It also solves the morning debate of what to wear to school today fight many parents encounter of all ages. All students then can blend without showing off the latest styles.

    Yes RaimuDiddy
  • I agree with school uniforms as this would take care of students trying to wear better clothes then the next student.

I believe this would stop some of the fighting that happens in the schools today. All students would be dressed the same so you would not have the students with more money teasing the students that do not have enough money to buy designer clothes. It would also be easier on the parents to buy one outfit for school then many different types of clothing.

  • I believe that schools should require students to wear a school uniform in order to eliminate many problems schools have with current dress codes and their enforcement.

There are many advantages to uniforms for schools, although many students would not agree with any of them. First, although schools have dress codes, enforcing them is a nightmare for schools. Students push the limit partly because fashion styles modeled by celebrities are far from conservative, and partly because they want to resist being told what to wear. The school monitoring employee must decide if a borderline outfit is appropriate or not. One student might be able to wear a sexy top and be appropriate, and other one with a more mature figure might get sent home. Schools should not have to spend time and resources monitoring what students wear, yet they have no choice. Unfortunately, some parents would otherwise permit their children to dress in totally offensive or inappropriate dress. Schools have even had to deal with costly lawsuits over suspending students because of their attire. Second, school grounds, and especially high school campuses, tend to become fashion centers where some students are the ?fashion police? who approve or disapprove of what is worn and bring distress or pressure on students whose style does not ?measure up?. Many students? parents do not have the money to keep up with the competition to dress in the latest, often most expensive wear. Uniforms level the playing field for everyone. No one will judge someone else based on what they wear, and students and parents do not feel the pressure to buy clothes they do not need and perhaps cannot really afford in order to be accepted by their peers.

  • I support school uniforms, it is a form of safety, freedom of expression does not outweigh the safety of a child.

School uniforms are a way of grouping kids together as a form of easier identification. If kids dress similarly on schools grounds or if they go out on a trip, and happen to be in any trouble or get lost, it may be easier to locate them if they are wearing the uniform which carries schools logos or the school colors. This is essential for kids the under high school grade levels as they are more vulnerable and can be a bit more careless. Wearing school uniforms also lessens the possibility that kids will be caught wearing inappropriate clothing.

  • School uniforms have the possible benefit of leveling the economic playing field and removing distractions from education.

My wife went to a school with a dress code, which is almost as good as a uniform. Wearing an outfit specific to school was like wearing an outfit for a task, focusing attention and changing the mood of the children who were wearing the clothing. It's like swimming in a bathing suit and not underwear. Both may cover the same amount of skin, but wearing a bathing suit implies intentionality, an ability to think about the task of swimming. Children getting an education need their version of a suit and tie for the same reason that a businessman needs his uniform.

  • give your style a look

Although I am only 12 I have a lot to say.If people wear school uniforms the school will look bold and boring like a prison where every one has to wear the same thing. If childeren have to where school uniform there sytle will disapire and there fealings will be more depresst because most school uniforms have dark colours wich will make the people inside look sad. We schould be able to express are own deffernces to show inividuality and freedom. Most school uniforms look like a suite so we look educational yes mabye we do look like that but we are still childeren we a'rnt 30 ready to go to work every morning. Children feal they have nothing really to think about every thing is being told to them like stand strait, tuk in your shirt, this is to colourful, ect. Literally we all look like nerds the only thing that is mising is th glasses. The school uniforms are mostly uncomfortable and bad to play outside in the brake and they make you weat a lot but if you cant take your sweat shirt of even if yo are wearing a shirt and a tie underneath it will become more uncomfortable and if we try to twich it right in class we get told sit still and don't move. If we always get told to wear the same thing we will not know to well in the future if it is apropreate to to wear some things in public. What school may not know the children are divided int deffrent groups and so what if you don't have the latest fasion trend you could youst show yor cool personality but if we have school uniform we have only a limited way or no way to expres our fealing or style. So I say no school uniform and if don't you think it just looks stupid on you and if we arn't 30 looking to go to work WE ARE JUST CHILDREN don't do this to us.

  • it is not important

kids should be allowed to express themselves in school. If they are not allowed some amount of self expression now it will come out later, usually much more forcefully than had they been allowed some freedom as children. Not everyone person needs to be shoved into the same box. We do not all fit just one mold. We should learn to celebrate the differnces in each other. This is the lesson that should be taught to our children. Not that everyone should be the same. I want my children to be who they are, Not cookie cutters.

wearing uniform is not important because almost all the kids dont like uniform because they could get bullyed for wearing them and by NOT wearing them they could express them self

  • They are a waste.

What are uniforms for exactly? To keep us safe? Clothing doesn't make you safe. It doesn't change anything from crimes ot theft at school. Uniforms are bland and are just useless! They cost money and for what? Students don't change their behaviour because of what they wear. Well, uniforms has its ups and down but really? Uniforms? What's the use!

  • i think that we deserve some indivuiality in school.

im 13 and i believe that uniforms are useless. They are saying that if we wear clothes it changes who we are. The schools thinks that if we have uniforms then we will be better in schooling. Really, as soon as school lets out we will be right back in our designer or play clothes. Teachers and school boards should really worry about education. Are parents are in charge of us, not the school. Who agrees with me, let your voice be heard!

Students should be allowed to express themselves with parental vision. Parents need to be more active in the child's schooling. And should not allow their child to wear offensive clothing. It's not the public schools fault the type of clothing that their students are allowed to wear. Having uniforms will not make everyone equal. It will not stop bullies and gang violence. Uniforms will gives false security. For example, a child with an lower society meets a child with an higher society. The child in the lower society will still feel the same with or without uniforms. And the uniforms may even complicate the child's (lower society) feelings for the child in the higher society. Besides, there are still other ways to ostracize a student by their clothing. Also, in the real world we don't wear uniforms. And that goes for most professions. Then there's also a conflict of who will pay for the students uniforms will it be the school or the parents.

  • Uniforms are rarely need in the Business world

Uniforms are anachronistic compared to the daily live of an average worker. Very few jobs require uniforms. Most jobs that do are low paying service work. We don't want to have kids aim for that. Why should we wear uniform if our main role models-teachers-don't?

  • Realistic preparation

I do not think students should wear uniforms, cause it gives them a false sense of even opportunities. While that may be the case in school, it would not motivate poorer students to try harder since they won't have the same financial backing with their rich counterparts.

  • no i think students should not be forced to wear uniforms.

i feel that students wants to express thereself and show off thier own creativity.i also think that students will not feel comfortable in something they don't want to wear because they may think its uguly,or baggy or something like that.

  • I am against school uniforms, because the stifle creativity and self expression.

I am against school uniforms. I believe children need to be able to express themselves as much as possible as they are trying to figure out who they want to be in this world. Clothing is a big part of self-image and identity and should not be stifled. I think it is a better idea to just ban overly revealing clothing and blatant gang colors and aside from that, let the kids be who they are.

  • I oppose the school uniform because we are not Nazi Germany; we should not force students to dress the same.

We were born as individuals and should go to school and wear different clothing that represents us as individuals. If everyone wears the same thing, where is the freedom? It will be like a prison where everyone wears orange all the time and cannot question the authority. I will fight school boards who try to do this to children. We are a free country and this should not happen in the United States of America. Each of us is unique and different and that should not be forced to change.

  • Schools should not require uniforms as they are an unnecessary component of education.

Schools should not require mandatory uniforms for students because the serve no useful purpose within the educational process. The freedom to express oneself is part of the growing and learning process as much as academic lessons, and students need this freedom to discover who they truly are as people. Uniform dress in schools give the message that diversity is a bad thing and to conform is to prosper.

  • While school uniforms may be a good idea in some schools it should be required in all schools.

Each school should have its own right to determine whether school uniforms are appropriate or not for the school. While there have been some excellent examples of school behavior being enhanced by school uniforms particularly in urban disadvantaged neighborhoods this needs to be a choice of the school. Studies have shown that academics sometimes improve with uniforms and that a competitive element is reduced. Yet to make this a requirement for all schools to do does not take into account different neighborhoods and different school characteristics. For example a high school that may foster the arts would be totally out of line requiring uniforms and could be a damper on the creativity that they are encouraging. In some cases uniforms may also place an economic burden on a family. To conclude each school district needs to determine what is best for the district and the individual schools and uniforms should be a voluntary thing.

  • I don't think schools should require students to wear a uniform.

I do not think that schools should require their students to wear a school uniform. I do not think it is fair for students to be forced to do something. Students have the right to stand out, if all are wearing the same outfit they can not stand out. Also some families can not afford to by the uniform.

  • I do not think that uniforms should be a requirement but is should be an option.

If a parent finds it more economical to purchase uniforms in a public school setting then they should have that option. Uniforms are great because students don't feel a sense of competition between other students. If would not matter how much money your. I don't feel there's a need to force a uniform on anyone. I do believe that individuality in dress is important, it breeds creativity. As a child the only thing you really have control of. Is your style , it would be a shame to loose that in a uniform.

  • Schools should not require students to wear a school uniform because it would fail to address the real isues that face our nation's young people.

I would have to say that most of the problems in schools today are not because of the way kids dress. It is because of the lack of parental guidance and attention. If all parents would pay attention to their children and teach them right from wrong, there would not be as many issues as there are. There are too many parents who think "Oh no...not my kid, they would do no wrong". Well I am here today to say "Yes! Your kid!" The lack of parental control and attention in this world today, I feel, is the cause for many of the problems we are having.
