I believe anyone should be able to marry anyone that they want. Who is the government to say what is right or wrong? As long as they are good citizens, do the right thing, and contribute to the community in which they live, then they should be able to get married.
Laws against gay marriage are unjust. Legal marriage is a government-recognized contract that offers a number of benefits to the married partners. To deny these benefits to some adults is unequal treatment, without justification. Some opponents of gay marriage have stated that the justification for unequal treatment is that the benefits are intended to encourage procreation and child-rearing, which requires a male and female partner. Facts do not support that argument. Gay couples can and do have children, and marriage benefits are provided to heterosexual couples who do not desire children, or who are unable to conceive.
I support all adults who wish to enter into a marriage of their choosing. Every succeeding generation in this country shows an increasingly supportive view of gay marriage. Poll after poll indicates that there is a majority of support for gay marriage. It is only a matter of time before this issue becomes a non-issue.
