I believe that by allowing children to watch TV there can be more things learned and more family interaction than if you disallow it. It seems to be punishing the child without the child having done anything wrong.
I watched television when I was young. I think I studied or brought homework home about two times between kindergarten and 6th grade. I am an A student and the top 10% of my class. If you don't let kids have a break, they aren't kids any more. Obviously teach them to be responsible and whatnot. Make sure that if there is any work they need to do, that it eventually gets done. You also have to keep in mind that this is elementary and middle school we're talking about. These things should not be hard for kids. It shouldn't take from 3:30-10 every day for a kid to do his or her homework.
The privilege of watching television during the school week, can be used as a reward for those children who have difficulty being motivated to complete homework assignments, or carrying out responsibilities assigned to them in the home. Parental supervision should be used to make sure the programs their children are watching are age appropriate.
Children should be allowed to watch TV during school weeks because television is a valuable teaching tool. There are a number of educational channels which can be used to augment classroom materials and give students a view that may be different from that of their teachers. Finally, television is also an entertainment medium, and children should be entertained.
Children should definitely be able to watch TV during school weeks because these days they have so much going on with extra curricular activities, sports, chores, homework they need a break! As long as the TV is monitored for age appropriate content and a time limit is set, it can do no harm. Watching TV for kids can be fun, educational and relaxing, something everyone needs!
Children should be allowed to watch TV on school nights, to allow them time to wind down and relax. School work and other activities can be stressful to children. TV can be mindless, yet educational. I believe that, by allowing children to watch TV an hour or two a night, will allow them enough time to wind down before bed.
It is important to have equal balance of work, sleep, and recreation because to have an imbalance will result in the individual becoming worn out, stressed, and/or extremely unhappy. If a child's choice for their recreation happens to be television, then that is their choice. However, I do not recommend that the child should spend their entire recreation time on only television, for it is healthier for the child to do a variety of activities. Television watching should be an option to them though.
Children need to relax and one of the ways to do it is through television viewing. What would taking away television during school weeks do for children? Force them to do their homework? No. Television, like anything else, should be limited. Moderation is a good thing. Eliminating it completely would not solve any "problem" television might be causing. People would probably replace it with things worse for children, like violent video games or bad movies.
I believe that children should be allowed to watch TV during school weeks but during their study hours (as they'll get distracted from their studies). They should be rewarded after the completion of their studies by being allowed to watch TV. TV offers different types of knowledge, news, hobby ideas, and social learning.
It is perfectly fine for children to watch TV during the school week provided that they have completed any necessary school related tasks that should be done. It does not hurt a child to take a break from realty just like adults do. It would be unfair to restrict a child from watching any TV, there are also plenty of educational shows as well that children can learn information from.
I think children should be allowed to watch TV on school weeks because they deserve to sit down and relax after going to school all day. As long as they can get their homework done and go to bed at a reasonable time, they should be allowed a few hours of TV a day to relax.
I believe that it is up to parents to impose and enforce limits on TV watching during the school week. If children are well behaved and able to complete all of their school work there is no reason that they should be forbidden to watch what their parents consider to be a reasonable amount of TV during the week. Many adults use television watching as a way to unwind at the end of a stressful day. Most children are as overworked and stressed out as adults are these days and there is no reason why they should not be allowed to relax in the same way after a hard day.
Children should be allowed to watch television during school weeks, because there are a lot of quality educational programs on. Children can learn a lot from watching the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, PBS, and the National Geographic Channel. Specific kids shows such as "The Magic School Bus" can help kids learn at a level that they can understand.
Children frequently suffer from from parents who strive to be too parental. Refusing to allow children to watch television doesn't necessarily improve the child. Television can be used a reward for good performance, and well monitored viewing can actually be beneficial to the child's development.
no, students (and I am one myself) should NOT be allowed to watch television during weekdays (with certain exceptions, of course). It affects the overall performance of the students by providing an everlasting distraction, filling the brains with useless stories and ideas, preventing further learning of USEFUL information, and etc. Of course, educational channels/shows can be acceptable, depending on the consequences. If one has extra time, why not take that opportunity to study for future tests or read educational (interesting) articles like ones on CNN/New York Times/World Street Journal/National Geographic? And if one needs a break from school, why not go out and play sports (or something equally non-diverting) with friends? It's great for the health, fun, communication/sport skills improvement, time filling, and stress relieving technique! Either way, there are other more productive, fun activities the children of today can be doing instead. And no, I am NOT a nerdy loser with no friends. Je suis une étudiant (sophomore) qui vais à une école compeditive. :P Au revoir, mes amis(:
Researchers have repeatedly found that excessive TV watching by schoolchildren leads to reductions in academic performance. But it is not clear that total elimination during the school week is necessary for best performance. While admitting that total elimination probably isn't necessary, I still would recommend it, because I believe that elimination is much easier on both the parent and child, than is an effort to maintain a schedule of very limited TV viewing.
The use of television for educational purposes can aid in the development of a child's brain growth. However when children begin school, abuse of television can create a large distraction and cause the child to be unable to concentrate in school. Television time should be limited to small amounts and only on the weekend; instead, children should partake in more outdoor or creative activities beneficial for health and brain stimulation.
Nowadays children watch a lot of TV and this is not right. Children should spend their free time with better activities that improve their fitness or mind. During the school week they not only have to concentrate on their studies, they should keep their minds fresh by having an activity that is good for them. There are a lot of other activities, many of them are rewarding and are a great base for their future. I think they shouldn't watch TV not only during school weeks, but ever.
