Scientific Debates are some of the most contentious. A wide variety of opinions exist on major environmental issues, to say nothing of biological and technological issues. Science teaching issues are also currently controversial. With so much going on, it can be hard to keep up with the latest developments and emerging issues or points of controversy. To this end, we've assembled a vast swath of varying opinions on many current scientific topics, so you can carefully weigh the pros and cons, whether you're looking to make a decision and take a stand now, or just do some preliminary research.
This list of debates highlights some of our newest topics where your contribution of pros and cons counts most.
Funding space exploration is a waste of money when there are so many issues plaguing the planet. People die from hunger and curable diseases every single day. We are destroying our lands at an alarming rate. These issues need to be addressed before we consider leaving the planet. Finding sustainable sources of energy and ending war and famine are of far greater importance than space exploration which has no promise to benefit mankind.
NoThere has to be life on other plants, and it's just a matter of time before we make contact with other beings on other plants. The government needs to reopen our space programs, so we can explore more. Their is a need to explore, so we can find out what is waiting for us.
YesThe fact that the U.S. government would attack innocent civilians on an enormous scale, due to the fact that American soldiers were killed, is ridiculous. Constituents should not be harmed for the work of their government, no matter where they live. This showed that Americans think that their lives are more precious than those of other nations, which is very tragic. The after-effects lasted for decades, and the action of dropping atomic bombs on huge Japanese cities was inexcusable.
NoMany people focus solely on the environment and environmental issues when they think of controversial scientific topics, and we have plenty of those, including discussions of the both the science for and the science against global warming. But you'd also be well-served by checking out our debates on other realms of science, such as the nature vs nurture debate, science teaching issues, or some of the controversial issues in biology. Science is a wide field with many interesting nooks and crannies. Don't be afraid to explore!
