Policy Debates – Pros and Cons for Public Policy Issues

Policy debates are among the world's most important, as each has the potential to change millions of lives. Here, we've assembled a comprehensive collection of major debate topics and public policy issues. Each of our debates is presented in an impartial, pro-con format that ensures both sides of each issue are treated fairly and equally. You'll find discussions of immigration, environmental and health care issues as well as debates about foreign relations and international issues. We've also got plenty of political debates. Each entry in our list of debate topics is an excellent example policy debate in and of itself, and together, they form a picture of current public policy issues.

  • Should smoking be banned in public places?

    Yes it Should

Because the majority of people want to be healthy

    Yes
  • Do we need to put more focus on providing funding for space exploration?

I believe that funds should be spent to take care of this planet rather than explore space.

Funding space exploration is a waste of money when there are so many issues plaguing the planet. People die from hunger and curable diseases every single day. We are destroying our lands at an alarming rate. These issues need to be addressed before we consider leaving the planet. Finding sustainable sources of energy and ending war and famine are of far greater importance than space exploration which has no promise to benefit mankind.

  • Was the U.S. justified in dropping bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan sacrificed too many innocent lives.

The fact that the U.S. government would attack innocent civilians on an enormous scale, due to the fact that American soldiers were killed, is ridiculous. Constituents should not be harmed for the work of their government, no matter where they live. This showed that Americans think that their lives are more precious than those of other nations, which is very tragic. The after-effects lasted for decades, and the action of dropping atomic bombs on huge Japanese cities was inexcusable.
