The United States is one of the few places in the world where it is simple to get your hands on a gun. In some ways, this is good. But, considering the amount of gun violence that we have today, especially among children, maybe guns should be tougher to obtain and maintain.
Americans have become afraid. They are afraid of the violence they see developing around them, and afraid that their "way of life" is being threatened by people they see as different from them. A large part of this fear is very likely media-driven. We only see the exception to the norm on television newscasts. We never see ordinary people doing ordinary things in fairly safe and secure neighborhoods, because this is not "news". When we see violence and people being killed on our streets on the news, we somehow begin to think that those aberrations are the norm. This makes us afraid. This makes us want to protect ourselves, our families, and our possessions. This makes us want to buy a gun, because it's the only thing we can think of to do. The media has also introduced us to a world filled with people who are in some way different from us. The only time the media exposes us to such people is when they are exhibiting some kind of violence, revolution, or terrorism. Never do we see them when they are doing the same ordinary things that "we" are doing every day. We buy a gun to protect ourselves from "them". Guns are not the answer, and we need tighter gun control.
like we seen on cnn news the morning of 12/15/10 there was a shootig a guy who didnt have a criminal record, we need to make it more difficult for a person to have a gun. Pople's lives are put in danger every day do to a gun. Stricter gun laws will cut down on death rates in bigger cities.
When I say there needs to be stricter laws, I mean that there needs to be qualifications within the existing gun control laws. I think no one should be able to own a gun without going through gun safety classes. You don't want just any idiot handling a deadly weapon. I do believe all Americans have the right to own a gun, but that ownership should just be handled with more care than it is now.
In order to fight all the gun violence, there needs to be stricter laws on gun control. Guns are extremely dangerous in the hands of criminals. The easier it is to obtain guns, the more violence that will result.
There are far too many deaths that are the direct result of gunfire. People use guns to kill - be it purposely or accidentally. Imagine how many people would still be around today if there weren't guns out in the world. Guns are far too easy to access, use and misuse. They are snuffing out lives. So, for the safety of the human race, there needs to be some seriously tighter gun control.
Although I agree that the Constitution affords the right to bear arms, the intent was not to allow mass murder as has occurred repeatedly in our country. The founding fathers never envisioned AK47's and other such modern weapons. There is a big difference between a semi-automatic and a rifle to go hunting with. If we had greater control, we could save many innocent people.
I believe that, if you tighten gun control laws, it will make matters worse, because people who want guns, will not bother trying to acquire them legally. They will still find a way to get them, through the underground or on the black market. That would lead to less documentation on those people who could have acquired those weapons legally. As far as I am concerned, it is better to allow people to own guns legally, and keep it easy for them to purchase them and have people screened and documented, as the law broadly states now.
Gun control only effects those who are in the system or using the guns for legal purposes. People that want a gun for an illegal purpose are probably not going to go to the gun store and purchase it. Instead they are going to steal one and use that one for their crimes and gun control laws cannot prevent this.
Stricter gun control laws would make it more difficult for the segment of the population who would use them to protect their families. History has shown that criminals, on the other hand, will surely never have any problems with access to guns, no matter what the law. Passing stricter gun control laws will give criminals an even bigger advantage.
Criminals are criminals which means they don't follow the law anyway. What's the point in making it tougher for the citizens who do follow the law when criminals aren't going to follow it anyway!!!!!!
We shouldn't put a rule on owning a gun im a hunter and i nee to go through so much just to buy a shotgun
Hitler wanted gun control. All tyrants are afraid of having arms in the hands of the people. Which is why I will always defend a constitutionally given right to a gun. You don't like criminal use of guns? Punish criminals for their acts, not the tools they use. I can kill a congress critter with a hoe. Should garden tools be controlled?
You've heard it said a million times: Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well, have you really ever thought about that statement? You should, because it is completely true. If I have it in my mind to kill someone, guess what? I am going to kill them. Will making a gun more difficult for me to obtain cause me not to kill that person? Uh, nope. If I want them dead, I am going to find a way, and there are millions of ways to achieve my goal, not just guns. Secondly, making gun control laws more strict doesn't mean that guns won't be obtainable. And furthermore, if I am a criminal, do I really care that laws are in place that prohibit me or make it more difficult to obtain a gun? Is a criminal gong to think along these lines? "Gee, I want to commit a crime, but I can't because I would have to break the law to obtain a gun to commit the crime. I guess I can't break the law!" Isn't it easy to see the completely flawed logic in that argument? If I am going to commit a crime involving a gun, I sure don't care about obtaining a gun legally. I am going to get the gun regardless of whether or not it is against the law, and there are millions upon millions of guns for me to obtain. If I want a gun that bad, they are readily available and easy to obtain. Guns are simply a tool-- a means to an end. If one isn't available, I'll pick up a knife and achieve the same result, IF I were a criminal. The chances of gun control laws actively reducing crime are slim to none. A criminal is a criminal is a criminal, with or without guns. They are going to do what they want one way or the other. The US Constitution, regardless of case law and liberal interpretations, specifically grants us, as American citizens, the right to bear arms, according to the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. It can't get any plainer or clearer the way it is written. But liberals have taken it upon themselves to interpret the Constitution to suit their own needs and agendas. Thus is the world we live in today, where case law and twisted interpretations rule the land. So again, guns don't kill people. Bad people kill people, and they will continue to kill people with or without guns. There are far more illegal guns out there than there are legal. How is a law going to affect that?
Current gun laws do not prevent gun related crime and violence and therefore there is no need to make them more strict. If anything, gun laws need to be looser so that more Americans can arm and protect themselves as the Constitution allows. Strict gun laws are intended to keep guns out of the hands of felons and those who wish to do harm. These laws, however, are easily bypassed by those with criminal intent as they do not care if they break additional laws.
Gun control laws do not keep guns away from criminals. Criminals do not care about the law to begin with. More restricts on gun ownership would just limit law abiding citizens. We must remember that people can have guns for protection, and also hunting or collecting. These uses of guns are acceptable and can even be commendable.
The laws that are in affect for gun controls are already enough to keep law abiding citizens safe. The problem comes when those who do not obey the laws anyway come in contact with a gun. The criminals that use guns in an unlawful way are not at all concerned with the gun laws. The only thing stricter gun control laws would do would be to not allow the law abiding citizens to have a gun for self protection. Just think about it...you (a law abiding citizen) are not allowed to legally have a gun but the criminal at your door does not care about the law and has one. What do you think is going to happen?
Guns don't kill people, other people do (baring the rare dog that picks it up and shoots an owner). And even if all guns were removed, murderers still can and often do kill with knives, pipes, axes, blunt instruments and even bare hands and feet. Removing the guns only removes one potential weapon murders can use; it also removes the one tool that allows a lone woman to have any chance of fending off a would be rapist / murderer in a dark parking garage alone. Get tough on the violent thugs and put them away for life; then fewer citizens will feel the need to carry a gun to protect themselves. And then there will be less crime AND fewer gun accidents. After all, law abiding citizens are shooting each other in mass after traffic accidents in the more than 20 states with conceal gun carry laws now. Get tough on the criminals and solve the problem.
