The Republican party has the best solution to the current economic crisis in the United States. The stimulus plan wasted almost a trillion dollars to prevent unemployment from going over 8%, but unemployment is now at 9.1% Stimulus doesn't work. When the government stepped into the housing market so that everyone could afford a home, the market crashed because people couldn't pay their mortgages. Cash for Clunkers was a dismal failure which only drove up the price of used cars. The Republicans plan for a free market is the best solution. If a business meets a need, it will succeed. If it does not meet a need, it will fail. Let the market decide.
Most Republicans believe in limited government and free enterprise, whereas Democrats believe in big government and socialism. Free enterprise is more efficient and relies on market signals to allocate resources, where big government relies on central planning and will always make the wrong decision and waste resources.
Ever since the dawn of Democracy, the Republicans have known exactly what to do right. We don't need to raise taxes on everything in our country. Some people can't afford that. We also don't need universal health care. That requires us to pay for illegal immigrants' medical bills when they don't even have to pay tax or anything.
Yes, I believe that the Republicans have a somewhat better idea about how to get out of the current economic situation. This is due to their staunch opposition to the current health care bill, and their rejection of the failed stimulus and bailout plans. The Republican party's continued support of the sound economic plan of trickle down economics shows that they have a better idea of how to fix the economy.
The GOP does not have a plan to end the current economic crisis in the United States. They are trying to play it up as much as they can, so they can retake the White House. I do agree with their assertions that wealth redistribution is wrong, and that the middle and lower classes should not be allowed to use the government to savage the wealthy of their money. But, at the same time, I do not see the GOP doing anything to help the lower and middle classes make money via jobs, or save their foreclosed homes.
No, Republicans do not have the answer. And, on that note, I am not sure Democrats do either. We are so in over our heads, here in the U.S., that I don't know what is needed to start digging us out. We've been on the wrong path for a long time, well before the current administration, and we need to rethink our values and the value of basic human life and needs, before we move on. The party tug-of-war games have got to stop, so average working Americans can stop worrying about their future and the future of their children.
The Republican party is known for being the party of fiscal responsibility. However, I believe that this is a load of hogwash. Both Democrats and Republicans desire to take more and more money, and spend more every year, on any number of different things. For Republicans, it's war, and for Democrats, it's entitlement programs. If you want true fiscal responsibility, then you'll have to elect a Libertarian candidate, and break away from the status quo.
The Republican solution of trickle down economics has shown to be a complete failure for the majority of Americans. Economic data has consistently shown that the American middle and working classes have been struggling for decades, with fewer opportunities and improvements in their general standard of living. Meanwhile, under the Republican policies, only a tiny fraction of the population, the already wealthy, have seen an improvement.
Since the education of our youth allows them to apply themselves and open up venues that were not possible before, Rick Perry's move to cut the Texas Education budget seems counter-intuitive. If we want our economy to thrive, why would we want to cut out institutions that allow our citizens to learn about how our economy works?
The GOP's response to the current economic crisis is the same as it has been to any any given economic situation in the past 30 years: cut taxes and cut regulatory oversight of business. That response stands even now, when the economic situation is a very unusual one last seen 80 years ago. The GOP believes that, at a time when industry has large amounts of unused production capacity, that the way to bring the economy back to life is encourage creation of still more production capacity by granting business and wealthy individuals tax reductions and looser regulations. Even if you agreed that more production capacity is what the country needs (and business clearly doesn't agree with this, with major corporations sitting on record amounts of idle cash), the tax breaks are a very inefficient way to encourage new capacity. The tax breaks would apply to all existing investments, so businesses and investors would have their taxes reduced even if they didn't invest a single penny in new equipment or ventures.
Neither Democrats nor Republicans are operating our nation and its policies in any way to save us from the current economic crises facing our nation and our world. The only way to stop these crises is for the government to stop spending money and become solvent again, before trying to move forward on any further issues. What other major institution would be allowed to continue operating this far into the red? Neither major political party has the guts to do this, and neither would ever consider it.
The Republican party is less apt than other political groups to incite change in economic policy. Republican politicians in general side with the opinions of big business, opting for solutions that are more focused on decreasing taxes for large corporations. I don't believe that the market will work itself out without government regulation.
