  • Fast food restaurants should be held responsible for obesity for a few reasons.

First, because they serve extremely unhealthy food, like McDonald's for instance. They put a special chemical in their fries to make it look fresh. But in reality, they're old and rotten. Second, [yes, it is the people's choice] but they're being seduced by the cheap prices and "tasty &juicy" burgers on the commercials. They make you think it's you're choice. But it might not be. Third, the only reason fast food has it's great taste is because of all the grease they put in it. So, it isn't exactly you're choice unless you're forced to stay away [as some people are]. Lastly [and there is more reasons, I just won't put them all], we all know grease causes people to get overweight, which is basically obesity, but they make you eat there. If you have children that watch tv, you might know the pain of having your child beg you to take them to the place with "the happy fun clown". And if you have ever been to McDonald's, you know that the only Ronald McDonald there is a cardboard cutout. On the commercials, children that "love" McDonald's always get a visit from Ronald who brings them Happy Meals and plays with them. Children think if they eat and love McDonald's, they may have the chance to meet him. Honestly, if they continue, they may not even have the chance. A young boy got killed from some of the chicken from McDonald's by a chemical. His mother is still trying to pass a law and close down McDonald's.

Forget about education, research, and free will; let’s all blame others for our own stupidity and ignorance.

Yes because they say that this should be a HEALTHY world. And well, fast food things are always filled with grease and fat and well possibly many more things. Also, people get sick easily from fast foods. Like McDonalds for instant. When I was little, McDonalds was my favorite resturant. But now, I don't really like it anymore. Considering I got sick from eating it one day. So I say it should be repsonsible for the obesity.

Yes they are because if they didn't have a lot of commercials on TV about their low price food then people wouldn't go to them as much. They are cheap foods and are made with things that may look gross to you before they cook it and when its done it makes you eat it. They make it from cheap products and they just arn't good for you. They make money while the USA gets fatter.

  • Typically I would say no but going to say yes for this specific purpose:

I went to my home town for the first time in several years, Its a pretty poor town with little to offer. While there are so many warnings about the consumption of fast food I was informed that McDonalds is opening up and all you can eat buffet in my home town. It's apparently the first of its kind. I was obviously outraged. As it is, not only is it unhealthy, fast food restaurants are often cheaper than fresh healthy foods. Now we are making the consumption easier, cheaper with no limits. I believe there should be laws around the consumption of these types of foods preventing corporations from making an extreme profit off of obesity. Yes individuals should take a stand and say no, but this is ridiculous.

  • Fast food items lead to obesity because of using fatty oils in high quantity. Fast foods are mostly fried ones. People who consume fast food three times a day have a higher chance of obesity compared to other people.

The main reason for obesity is the food we eat (although it may be because of heredity or hormonal disorder to a certain percentage). Fast food items are rich in fat, glucose and calories. This high intake of extra calories and glucose are not needed for the body's normal functioning and the extra is stored as fat. This leads to obesity.

  • Fast food restaurants should be held at least partially responsible for the epidemic of obesity in America. They profit by harming the health of our citizens.

Fast food companies make enormous profits by hurting American citizens. Although people are to some extent responsible for their own health, fast food restaurants make it difficult for many people to eat healthily. Studies have shown that many urban areas constitute "food deserts," or areas where fresh food is much more difficult to come by than fast food, making fast food restaurants one of the only options that local residents have. In fast food restaurants and corner stores, it is nearly impossible to find healthy food. In fast food restaurants such as McDonald's and Burger King, even items such as salads have an incredibly large amount of fat and sodium.

Think to yourself, if you were in court trying to sue McDonalds for the reason of your childs or urselves obesity, would you say: "Oh hey they didnt even put a single word about the nutrional facts anywhere on the bag, box, or bottle. And then you find out online that there is 790 calories in an Angus Bacon and Cheddar!!!" But you know what YOU should have done: looked on the website first before you paid and took a bite out of that greasy and ofcourse FATening thing! It is our choice to make. And we should not sue anybody for the reason of obesity

  • Food restaurants should not be held legally responsible for the obesity in America, because the choice to eat is a personal decision.

Food restaurants should not be held legally responsible for the obesity in America, because the choice to eat or not eat is a personal decision. Obesity is a choice, and only the person making that choice should be held responsible. Too many Americans are out for the fast buck, and want to sue over anything.

  • I do not feel that fast food restaurants should be held legally responsible for the obesity of America, because no one is being forced to eat there.

I do not feel that fast food restaurants should be held legally responsible for the obesity of America, and Americans in general. Ronald McDonald is not holding a gun to any American's head, and forcing someone to grub down on fatty and almost nutritionally void food. It is time we take responsibility for our own actions.

  • Let peeps eat what they eat, but HUGE CORPORATIONS have to follow more laws.

No but they certainly should stop with all the food campaigns. Such as advertising. They make you think its your choice to eat pure rotten sht food. It taste so good because they sit in trays of grease. so the government should be helping the people by letting them eat what they want but make the fast food joints follow stricter laws, they impact the world to much for them to have such lenient laws. They can put images on television magazines, comedians will joke, you laugh , the comedian gets a side wage from some corp, you go home thinking its your choice, bla, bla. they have to stop huge corporations from mental magick. Because we(America) have done the research on mind control and know what gets you salivating, They prey on your weak brain, you make them rich... So in a way yes, but no lets say no pay outs or nothing like that, but more laws for the huge machines thing that isnt actually a human but disposable humans that make up certain parts of the corporate machine.

  • fit as can be Dave/SAY NO

No, how can a person blame a fast food joint for making "them" fat? Oh they made me walk down and order a "supersize" meal 5 times a week. Then they made me eat it five times a week? As for all these commercials, get of your butt, stop watching tv, and do some exercise. Learn to take responability for ones own life, and stop trying to blame everything but yourself. If you always have a craving for food, then eat nutrient dense food that fills you up, unlike crap from fast food joints that will make you hungary every two hours. And lastly get a damn education on how to eat healthy....that may help many people!

  • not at all,

if you are eating fast food every week well then its your choise and nobody except yourself can stop that eating habit!

  • No.

No, it's a persons choice to be unhealthy. They don't have to eat fast food they want to.

  • Blame the people who eat there

I believe that it's not the fast food restaurants fault, because if you blame them, then you can also blame the supermarkets and manufacturers for making the food thats causing obesity. Also, I can put most of the blame on the people (individual), because in order to stay healthy, you need to work out and stay in shape. Fast food restaurants have no reason to be blamed for obesity throughout the country.

If people want to get fast food and then don't work it off than fast food joints should not be blamed.

people who are fat are that way because they don't have the will power to say no. they wouldn't be fat if they just knew how to put the fork down. Blaming fats food resturant's is dumb and irresponsible. It is not their fault that you can not control what goes into your mouth. If you really want someone to blame blame yourselves. And you all know better than to eat more than your stomach can hold. Grow up and put the fork down. This topic angers me just knowing that people can not take responsibility for there own actions.

  • No, because that would be like holding a drug dealer liable for an idiot overdosing.

People make conscious decisions to put things in their bodies and they know the risks. Like I said earlier, should we hold a drug dealer liable for an idiot overdosing? Why should fast food places be held liable for an idiot constantly stuffing unhealthy foods in their mouths when they know for a fact that those foods are unhealthy? That's like putting shorts on when it's 32 degrees outside.

  • I disagree that fast food places should pay for the obesity of its patrons, because they are not responsible for society's eating habits.

Most likely, obese people do not practice healthy eating habits at home either, or they wouldn't be eating at McDonald's in the first place. Based on the fact that there is no way to prove absolutely that a restaurant alone is the cause, it would be unfair to make any eateries compensate an obese person.

  • Fast food restaurants are not responsible for obesity because people make their own choices.

Fast food restaurants are not doing anything illegal. The American consumer can make his or her own decision regarding what kind of food he or she wants to eat. Obesity is not caused by fast food eating. There are numerous reasons why obesity is on the rise. Inactivity due to video games and television are another reason why obesity is on the rise. Are we going to hold the media and entertainment industries responsible as well?

  • I do not believe that the fast food industry should be held responsible for obesity because Americans have the choice of what they consume.

Americans have the choice to consume fast food - or consume a healthier choice. The McDonald's and Burger Kings provide the option, but each individual person makes the choice. There are people that enjoy fast food in moderation and the fast food companies shouldn't be held responsible for people not making healthy choices.

  • America is a Free country.

In America we have the freedom to do what we want. Look at tobacco companies for example. They sell products that are known to cause all sorts of health risks, yet they are aloud to do it. They are not held responsible. For this reason, I think it would be unfair to hold fast food companies responsible for the effects of their food. After all it is our choice to eat it.

  • I disagree that fast food restaurants should be responsible for obesity in America because fast food is just a business.

Fast food restaurants are simply just a business. It should not be their fault that people are choosing to purchase their goods. After all, America is a land of choice and democracy. People should have a choice on what they do and should face the consequences as a result of their actions.

  • Fast food restaurants aren't responsible for individuals' choices.

Although most fast food is unhealthy, an occasional fast food meal will not make a person obese. Each individual makes his or own choices about what they eat and the quantity of food they eat. Fast food restaurants are not responsible for obesity because they don't force anyone to eat there, or to eat too much.

  • Fast food restaurants should not be held legally responsible for the obesity in America; it is the result of a confluence of factors.

Fast food restaurants supply salty, high fat food full of sugar at a cheap price. However, even though their advertising can be a bit excessive they are not forcing people to buy and eat their food. People eating more fast food is a symptom of public obesity rather than the cause. Other factors include high fructose corn syrup subsidies, the decline of physical education, and the rise of the internet and cable television
